The ARTvent market also takes place in the Merangarten on two weekends. There are art objects to admire, crafts to try out, refined and creative food and drinks to taste and atmospheric music to listen to. - Dorfgastein
Atmospheric Advent market in Dorfgastein municipal park
The festively decorated Advent market in Dorfgastein is taking place again this year. With lovingly prepared craft stalls and regional products such as bacon, meat doughnuts and schnapps, visitors are put in the mood for the most wonderful time of the year. The Christmas program is rounded off by the shepherds’ play by the Dorfgastein elementary school and a choir concert. A unique ambience awaits you in Grossarl in the run-up to Christmas. The Advent market in this beautiful mountain region delights with tradition and variety. You will be spoiled with all kinds of delicious treats and Christmas specialties at the elaborately decorated market stalls.
A varied Advent program offers numerous attractions, especially for children. Of course, there are also wonderful Christmas decorations and handicrafts from the Salzburg region.
KRAMPUSSE & PERCHTEN
The Gastein Krampus Run takes place every year on 5. and December 6 throughout the Gastein Valley. 80 to 100 Krampus passports go from house to house to reward the good and punish the bad.
The Krampus run is an ancient tradition and has been preserved especially in the Gastein Valley. The individual passes, which all have a unique name, ensure that the tradition is upheld and the lively customs are carried on from generation to generation.
PERCHTEN.KULT
Gastein is also where the once widespread Perchten cult has been most originally preserved. The Gastein Perchtenlauf has been documented since the 14th century, making it one of the oldest traditional events in Salzburger Land. The traditional Perchtenlauf is repeated every 4 years and takes place between New Year’s Day and Three Kings’ Day.
The magnificent procession is unique in its form and size and was added to the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage in 2011.
