THE GASTEIN VALLEY
  • Trail running

The Gastein Valley has long been an insider tip for trail runners.
Runners can enjoy the diverse Gastein mountains and collect plenty of altitude meters on marked and GPS-tracked trails.
Fantastic single trails and historic paths take you to imposing peaks, picturesque mountain lakes and spectacular ridge runs with 360° panoramic views.
Anyone dreaming of speedy downhills will find what they are looking for here.
With around 600 kilometers of marked trails, Gastein offers running variety and a wealth of route planning options.
Whether you spend just a trail run weekend or a long “trailcation” in the Gastein Valley, there is something new to discover every day.
On the permanent trail running routes (T1-T5) you can easily follow the signs.
If you want to explore the locals’ favorite routes, you can download the GPX files here.

  • Paragliding & tandem flight

  • Flying Waters

Soar over the world-famous Gastein waterfall.
And experience Bad Gastein’s nature and architecture from a bird’s eye view. Spectacular.
“Flying Waters” is the name given to the breathtaking ride on pulleys on a wire rope – suspended high above the gorge of the Gasteiner Ache.
What sounds so dangerous is actually risk-free adventure fun for the whole family thanks to the perfect safety equipment provided by professionals. The 300-meter-long route leads from Villa Solitude to the thermal spring park. The ride offers magnificent views of the historic town center, the waterfall path and Grabenbäckersteig trail with yoga platform, as well as the fascinating mountain world of the Hohe Tauern.

  • Climbing

Climbing – for all requirements. Whether for young or old, beginners or advanced. The Mauskarspitze via ferrata offers spectacular views of the Gastein mountains with many variations.

Short via ferrata on the south side of the Mauskarspitze.
The special feature of this climb is a beautiful 30 m long rope bridge in the middle – the summit ridge is also beautiful.
Worthwhile in combination with a hike or a descent on the roller coaster.
    • Approach to the wall: From the Kleine Scharte mountain station (2050 m), turn left on trail no. 3 past the large reservoir to a chairlift that leads up to the Hohe Scharte.
Climb up along the slope, shortly below the mountain station turn right to the already clearly visible entrance at a signpost.
    • Access altitude: 2240 m
    • Descent: On the normal route (partly steep grass passages) down to the cable car station.

The via ferrata is particularly interesting for children. And a ride down to the middle station on a mountain cart or monster scooter afterwards guarantees an action-packed day – for everyone.
